ZERO ENERGY

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is the second-highest official capital city in the world. Its historic center, located in the southwest part of the city, is one of the largest and best-preserved in the Americas. However, this area has increasingly turned into a tourist district, with many historic buildings converted into shops. Meanwhile, most residents, especially younger generations, have moved to the newer northern part of the city.

The challenge is to revitalize the historic center and bring life back to it, especially at night. My design aims to attract tourists and short-term residents who are interested in experiencing Quito’s traditional and historic character. The site’s proximity to major landmarks makes it ideal for this purpose. These groups, tourists and short-term residents, are often looking to meet new people and form connections, which can, in turn, help reactivate local commerce and restore the vibrancy of the historic core.
